video1: It is a stereotype. people are fixed that hard professions like surgeon ,fire fighter and pilot can be done only by men as they involve physical works like stunts which are notcapable of women.so only 3 of the students drew a women picture when they are asked draw their pictures.
video2: Its a streotype that women should do household works.Even though husband and wife have equality in their professions but women is supposed to do the works at home which is unfair. she is trained how to be in her mother in-laws house from the day she is born.parents should teach some house hold works for their boys also.

video 1: stereotype is a widely held image or idea about something or someone..most of the kids in the school, formed a mental picture of a firefighter, pilot and a surgeon as men..a few did draw women ..this is be attributed to the factors which influence their mind..we cant totally brand this as gender stereotype.. they might've been influenced by cartoons, which creates all these mental pictures and at the same time very magnetising at such an young age.

video2: we all complain about gender inequality.but our transformation is what transforms the nation..Gender equality must be put into practice right at the root level.i.e.our homes..it is not necessary that parents are entirely responsible for upbringing their children..they grow on their own too.being an adult, that person in the video must have been independent(in other words not-dependent) on his mother for cleaning his room. A stereotype is also involved here. it is widely believed that the rooms of boys are generally messy and unclean..this too influences the mind of growing kids, who figure out gender difference based on how ones room looks.

    REAL LIFE INSTANCES:
Just as job opportunities have been springing up for women, the men of 21st century have put their boots in the place of women.so the invisible differences between the two would come to an equilibrium A-SAP

Gender Equality has always been a topic of discussion.
This specific blog post aims to tackle the looming problem of gender stereotypes.

The first video describes a classroom situation where children are asked to depict their ideas of a few occupations. The children go on to demonstrate their ideas of a fire fighter, surgeon and fighter pilot via drawing and art. However, when they do meet people who work those positions, they are surprised to see women, rather than men. Although it's true that these 3 fields are rather male dominant sectors of the work force, the reaction from the children are surprising. I do not believe it's right to pin the children on drawing men rather than women, as it's just their idea of the 3 posts. However it was a positive effort from the school to try to vanquish any possible gender stereotypes at an early age by showing that gender does not define what you can and cannot be.

The second video tries to depict the lack of house skills in the male youth in today's world. It's partially true that generally, girls are more well equipped with skills to take care of a family than boys; however it's not completely true. The video depicts the boy to be extremely messy with his mother having to clean up after him. This sets a wrong image in the minds of the demographic of how a teenage boys room looks like. However, the video does convey the right idea in telling the viewers that both boys and girls should be trained in basic life skills by their parents.

In my personal life, I have been victim to certain stereotypes. I've had non Indian friends who had the pre conceived notion that we as Indians are unhygienic and have poor language skills. I tackled this situation by setting an example that completely negates their assumption.

It's very difficult to fight and remove stereotypes in a world that was built on it. I believe that if we want to really eliminate such stereotypes, we as individuals need to set examples to the people of the world that not everyone fits the stereotype and that there are people who are very different than what is first assumed of them.

Both the videos in this blog focus on gender stereotypes.

In the first video, students are asked to depict their ideas of a few occupations namely : a surgeon, a fire fighter and a fighter pilot.
Later, the children are introduced to people actually working in those occupations, and are surprised when they see three women standing in front of them. Majority of the class drew pictures of men in these professions. Men, rather than women, are more frequently associated with professions that require precision, skill, courage and strength, and it is a stereotype that has existed for a very long time.
If I were asked to think of a Surgeon or a fighter pilot, I would've thought of a male in those occupations as well. There is a mental picture painted in all of our heads at a very young age, and it is because of what we hear and see around us. Books, movies, cartoons, advertisements ,etc, all play a role in creating these stereotypes. But occupations like being a fire fighter or a fighter pilot do typically see more of men than women, so it isn't completley wrong or surprising that most children's depictions were men.

The second video is about young men lacking household skills. It is true, to some extent, that parents are more insistent about their daughters learning household skills and chores rather than their sons. I think the most persistent stereotype is that women need to know how to take care of their families and must be well trained in household skills and chores, especially in our country. The video tries to convey that both boys and girls should be trained to do household work. And it is important for families to teach both their sons and daughters equally from a very young age.

In today's world, there have been improvements regarding gender stereotypes many of which are in favor of women. Stereotypes are not easy to eliminate. But we need to learn to look past them as they are just mere ideas that have been passed on and on. Stereotypes do not define people and their capabilities. What a person can do or cannot do, be or cannot be, should not be based off of a mental picture stuck in our heads.

    1. Dear Abirami. Thank you for your response. Are you a basketball player? How did you convince the teacher to permit the girls to share the court?

    2. Yes, I am a basketball player. I and my friend had to convince our PE sir every class to ask the boys to share half the court with us. Initially he would dismiss our request by saying the boys will "actually" play while the girls won't, which was not the case. It is true that the boys had more strength, but we had enough girls to play the game as well. So, persistently asking our teacher every class eventually, towards the end of the year, led to being able to share the court without having to argue with the boys and the teacher. Although we had a woman teacher as well, she didn't take any efforts to talk to sir about the problem, and hence, we asked him ourselves. The boys team always got more preference, even during practice before matches.

    Equality of gender in profession:
Fire fighter, surgeon, pilot these are the some of the critical jobs...According to the society and people all have some thoughts that these like jobs are can be done only by men...women have no lesser talent or confidence than men... So this division of jobs and making a seclusion of women from certain jobs are uncertain...This can be avoided only when we teach them from the beginning of the childhood. The video clearly depicted how they imprint this equality of gender to the young minds.

    Men on household chores:
Both girls and boys are meant to do their duty even if it is an household chores...these are not written on any books that only girls must do it and not men,it is just written in minds people who see girls as the people who must do it...male dominant persons. This must be avoided.Men must also have to take part in it.

Both videos narrates the gender stereotypes of our society.

It is better to break the stereotypes before it grows..that is what mentioned in the first video. The society have framed certain terms for men and women.Usually men are portrayed as rough and strong whereas women are portrayed as sensitive and weak. That is why majority of the children related men with all occupations that involve stunts, risks and so on.The better way to break these stereotypes lies in the hands of parents and teachers...Because till certain stage children automatically grow under the guidance of parents and teachers.Feeding young kids with good thoughts and knowledge will pave way to come out of these beliefs.

Second video talks about the prioritization of kids taking place in India based on gender .Generally in India male children are given more importance than female children. In the present era though this stereotype has reduced, the chain is not completely broken. In this video the lead character (mother) realizes her mistake only after her own daughter suffers. In India most of the women finds it difficult to manage various tasks including taking care of her children ,husband ,family and so on.Only those women who are able to balance both the cycles are pursuing their jobs, whereas other women are bounded to stay within their home .One good thing in this video is ....right after realising her(mother) mistake she starts correcting it by training her own son to do the household chores. If we change ,automatically the society's view will change.

Personal experience:During my school days my parents felt that it was not safe for me to ride my bicycle alone. So I was insisted to use public transport...whereas they would give permission to my brother to use his bike even at nights. But after so many explanations now they have changed to some extent.

The above videos insist about the gender stereotypes.

In the first video the students are asked to portray their ideas of few occupation. The students mental picture depict that men would be perfect for those occupations.Because they thought that men are generally portrayed as having agency characteristics such as competence, achievement-orientation, inclination to take charge and rationality, women are associated with communal characteristics such as concern for others, deference and emotional sensitivity. Its better to break such stereotype from the society. As a part of society we should educate our children with good thoughts and make them know about the gender equality.

In the second video,it tells about the young men lacking in his household works. In general only the female children will do all household chores rather then male. But now it has been change to some extent. Both men and women should share their works.Parents should also take responsibility of making their male children realise that they should also take part in household chores and be helpful for their family.

The first video depicts that the women are not suitable for certain jobs and it's been believed by many of us, but the scenerio has been changed currently by the women in present generation as shown in this video . Women's will power and strong desire which lead them to achieve their goals in life. They are proving that they are equally to men in each and every level of society.

The second video says how boys are lacking in doing household chores. There is an untold fact that women have to do all household chores and we are blindly following it. In many families boys aren't asked to do any household chores but girls were asked to do...we can change this from our home by sharing our mom or sis works.

The first video depicts the stereotypes we associate with certain jobs.

The stereotypes are a holdover from a different time when it would have been impossible (firefighter, soldier) or almost impossible (surgeon) for a woman to even apply for certain jobs or study in certain fields.

Today, there is nothing that prevents women from following their dreams.
And it is definitely worth our time to show children that.

The second video posts a caricature of a son who cannot do household work or is unwilling to do so to illustrate the daughter's plight.

The idea that a man 'does not know' or cannot learn how to do household chores like sweeping, washing dishes or using the washing machine is funny, because there is nothing complicated about these activities.

Hopefully no one is that inept.

In most marriages, there is an unspoken division of labour between both parties. As an example, my father spends hours every week managing everyone's financials and my mother takes care of household goods.

While men should definitely do some of the household chores, one must consider that men, on average, work 15% more hours than women even in developed countries.

    https://www.statista.com/statistics/280749/monthly-full-time-weekly-hours-of-work-in-the-uk-by-gender-year-on-year/

The following article explains, when both sexes are single, they work about the same hours and earn about the same, but all that changes after marriage.

    https://towardsdatascience.com/is-the-difference-in-work-hours-the-real-reason-for-the-gender-wage-gap-interactive-infographic-6051dff3a041

It should then be no surprise that women do more of the household chores than men. Again, hopefully no man is so inept that they are unable to do any of the work.

Personal experience: My mother is a doctor and understandably never learnt how to cook because she was too busy studying.

It is shocking to some that my mother never used a stove until both her children were reasonably old, but to them, it is completely normal that my father is an expert in only making idly/dosa.

  10. About the first video:
So to talk about the stereotypes the people are assigned their work accordingly of their gender. Parents were also do a major part in implementing their old mythology to the children by what to do and not to do and also the media visualise the workers of their gender, which a child saw and grow based on that.
But,I don't think so such these could happen in the future. Since, everyone of this generation is educated. As of my experience,A neighbour girl wanted to study MECHANICAL ENGINEERING but their parents refused. They said"it is only ment for men. So you can't do hard work as men". So they joined her DDS but for her she wanted to be an Engineer. From my point of view this is not acceptable interested people can do their job well whether it is a male/female.

    About the second video:
To say the inferiority complex among the society about a female. One example is that my dad once told my mom,"we are good in income. So the second income is not needed. You do the home making service well and see up the children".Well my mom needed job for her pleasure not for her source of income and also to save money so she could buy whatever she needed. Which is not a bad idea. The video speaks a mom who responsible for raising up a man. Who is not ready to give the equal right on work. They constrained the work which could only done by women and not by men. Which is also a stereotype. Making constraints on the law only do not give a equality in gender job,it should come from the dominant of the gender.
To conclude by say people responsible for making the dominance over the weak is a good idea but not upon the gender. A wife could be dominant in the home but should not take this as advantage by submissive the husband and vice versa.

Both the videos depict about gender inequality and society's perspective towards women and men... The first video explains how we feed our stereotypes into our next generation as these stereotypes continue to exist generation after generation. It is misbelieved that red collar jobs cannot be handled by women. This stereotypic mindset is making society to restrict individual's goals and passion.

Coming to the second video,it is depicted that our society expects women to take care of their families and perform all household chores whereas men are exceptional to these chores. Living in a modern world,it becomes totally immature to expect women alone to take care of the family.

In many societies the gender roles are defined by the stereotypes and we follow them for so many centuries. Generally, men are always given the challenging, adventuring occupations. But women are allowed to pursue careers like teaching, nursing, catering only. In children upbringing, they start to internalizing these society values consciously or unconsciously .
In the first video the school is trying to vanish these stereotypical image by inviting female surgeon, fire fighter and fighter pilot. And in the second video a mother realises her mistakes and try to change the stereotypical image. Family and school are the most important factors in the socialising process. So,if every school and family start to change this gender inequality ,it will not exist no longer.

So, here it is a stereotype and even if the stereotype is correct in some cases, constantly putting someone down based on preconceived idea will not encourage.

    Video 2:
Here, a young boy does no household works. It isn't that he doesn't know or he shouldn't do . Why don't we teach them to lend a hand. Neither male nor female are born with a genetic liability to wash the dishes or do the laundry. So, why should one gender be picked over the other to do these chores. When we refuse or neglect giving boys household chores it makes them irresponsible and it supports gender stereotype. The gender stereotypes are defined between 5 and 7 years of age. "If you want to change the world, start with yourself first".

    Personal experience:
I don't have any personal experience but a friend of mine is a very good dancer. She wished to join the arts and music/dance academy. But she was not encouraged. The only reason is that she is a girl . This put her down. She was very much determined and took a bold decision and good efforts to convince her parents and she made it finally.

The stereotype for physically difficult jobs are considered to be men by the society. But it's surprising that even small kids
having such thoughts. It might be from their parents or relatives. The society should change according to the morden world. Nowadays women were in every field and providing equal contribution.

The first video is about an old stereotype that only men can do certain jobs. The young students might have developed this thought by watching any movies or listening from someone else. But nowadays, it is not like that as there are many women pilots, surgeons etc.
Hence,we should try to educate the young children by showing them this video.

The second video is about women do all the household chores and men don't do anything. It was like that in olden days, but nowadays it is not like that.Since both men and women are working in most of the families nowadays, they equally share their household chores.Even in families where only men are working and women aren't,men are doing the household chores like sweeping ,cleaning etc. whenever they are free.

    Personal experience:

    Related to first video:

In olden days, women weren't allowed even to the schools. But ,in my family, two of my cousins (sisters) are doing MS in US currently. So the trend has changed and its time to come out of that stereotype that only men can do certain jobs.

    Related to second video:

My sister got married a year ago and i have seen ,only my brother-in-law doing most of the household chores. So people should stop saying that men don't do any household chores as it is the other way round nowadays in most of the families.

The above two videos involve gender stereotypes which is a consider as a common issue in the society

VIDEO 1:The cause for gender stereotype in this video is with the society as they create a fabricated layer of facts. The foundation for these false facts spread easily to children via cartoons, comics such as Marvel and DC where they depict most of the mighty superheros as a male and it influences the younger generation to a great extent.
I see this an initiative by the teachers in this video as they try to clear the false interpretation that has been in the minds of the students in one way or another.

VIDEO 2: This is a widespread stereotype in almost every families that a daughter or the female in the family has to do the household chores whereas the male has no part in it.Basic right for a woman starts in her respective family where she starts sharing her work with the male in her family. That's the initial right she can acquire and I feel that it could be a starting point to a whole new perspective where the society shatters the gender stereotypes in every aspects of life.

REAL LIFE INSTANCES:I was allowed to select courses of my own whereas a girl who was my classmate was not allowed to choose some of the courses where the proportion of girls in that specific course is quite less.

    VIDEO 1:

The clip gives an example of the people in the world , showing their face of gender stereotypes in giving jobs according to the gender. That 60 % of the children in the classroom showing that majority of the jobs can be done only by men, so from childhood itself we are setting that men are only capable for the task.. " FIRST THEY IGNORE U ! THEN LAUGH AT U ! THEN FIGHT U ! THEN U WIN! " as Gandhiji said , women are proving that they are capable of doing any work by physically or mentally.. #SINGAPPENEY

As my personal experience , After I came to chennai for higher studies I have seen many women working in food delivery , ticket collector , driver , architect ... As my hometown is trichy I'm proud to say that that Nirmala Sitharaman who is currently serving as the Minister of Finance and Minister of Corporate Affairs , that she is the first women to be a finance minister in India and Hima Das who won five golds in a month for field and track event which was a new meet record compared to men . Like these there are many examples to tell that are happening in society . So we ourself have to think and change the gender stereotype..

    VIDEO 2:

The ad depicts the same scenario that is gender partiality in doing household chores. The place of woman was considered to be in the house almost since the beginning of time. Back then, women used to be the only one responsible for the household and for bringing up of their children. Although we were brought up in the same house, boys and girls were treated differently. So the basic thing for a woman starts in their family itself.
As now the trend as changed that in some family both men and women are working and sharing the works in house. As my personal experience , I have seen my father washing the vessels and cooking the food for us, when my mom feel sick or in outstation. There are many dish that like most which is cooked by my father compared to my mother. So this stereotype thing has to be eradicate from the society. That all boys from now should learn how to cook, sweep, clean, wash which will be useful in future!

This video speaks about gender stereotypes. When the children were asked to draw the picture of firefighter, surgeon and pilot most of the children came up with a picture depicting men. This is not their fault as a. children there is no limit to what we believe we can become but when it comes to boys and girls they are steered by various factors while growing up like traditional ideas about what girls and boys can or should do. Stereotypes are everywhere they follow us from our earlier days in toystore to influence us in choosing which subject in school. Its a myth that girls are always better then boys in arts and crafts and boys are led by maths and science. After as a grown up adult they prefer high paid jobs. Acknowledging children about gender stereotype would pave a solution for this.
Because the trend has been changed women are doing great things in every profession.
    Video 2:
This video speaks about gender bias in household chores. As said household chores are not meant for women alone. For example consider a scenario where a working women after returning from work only to see a pile of clothes that has to be dumbed into the machine and cook food for his husband and son. Isn't it unfair. Why her husband and son can't help her with the household chores. Are they humans or something else they too feel tired, how you can keep all the work load on their head. In an article published in Times of India pointed that on an average Indian men do household jobs less than an hour a day while on the other hand women do it for 6 hours a day, is that fair. So let us share our work load so that our family will be happy.

    Personal experience :
Myself and my brother used to help my mother in doing household chores like washing vessels and sweeping the floor for reducing her work load. Sometimes even my father will cook for me just to surprise my mom. These small things will make huge changes so always respect your women.

  32. Both the videos tells us about gender inequalities and stereotypes prevailing in our society.
The first video tells us that how Gender norms and stereotypes are so ingrained in our society that adults are often surprised to realize how early children internalize these ideas.Nowadays women even achieve in all occupations .Parents, media , society has more responsibility in influencing gender neutral ideas in children.
The video2 tells us about gender specific chores.when it comes to gender, expectations about housework have been among the slowest to change. But in the video , the mother realises that change should be brought first from us .Likewise we should start raising kids to do chores not depending on their gender

    Video 1:
The first video depicts the prevalence of gender stereotype in our society. From our childhood, we are raised with notions that men are strong, brave and courageous while women are generally week, shy and meek. Moreover, we spent our childhood watching comics and advertisements where they glorify these kind of perceptions. Hence, it became a norm to associate the work of firefighters, pilots and surgeons with men.
In that video, 3 kids have drawn the picture of women in these professions which makes us feel that we are in a world where those perceived notions are no longer trusted blindly and they are taught about gender equality since young age.

    Video 2:
The second video depicts the acceptance of bias towards son and daughter by parents in our society. People think that the word "feminism" has taken over the world way too much and women are given more rights comparitively. Is that true? Yes, now women are allowed to work like men but unlike women, men are generally not trained to perform household chores. Moreover, it is completely fine for women to leave high paying jobs to take care of the family.
In that video, her mom feels guilty when her daughter quits off her high paying dream job to take care of her house whereas her son keeps his room shabby and have not taught him to be a helping hand in so defined "women's work". I am glad that she wishes to bring a change in society by initiating it from her own family. If everyone start accepting it that way, we can soon achieve the status of " gender equality" .

Till I joined college, I remember my parents holding my hands while crossing the roads and going out alone, was just an impossible thing. In my first semester too, I was allowed to go out only with friends. Yeah, I do feel envious when my brother is allowed to use bike and not minded when he comes after midnight.
Yes, I was rebellious about it .I always feel by going out alone, you learn a lot more. First time, when I went out alone , my parents were angry. Eventually they understood that even a girl should be independent and started accepting it.
Once I went to vgp alone which is in injambakkam. I could neither find cabs at 10 pm and local auto drivers did try to take advantage of my situation and charged high prices. Mind that I never knew any bus routes and mobile data wasn't working well at that place. I somehow, managed to ask different people, took 3 buses and reached the destination. When I told this my mom, she was indeed proud. So I feel the change starts within yourself.

The videos address the problem of gender stereotypes.

In the first video, the teacher asks the children to draw their ideas of a surgeon, fire fighter and a fighter pilot. Then they were introduced to the real life heros in those occupations. Majority of the children drew pictures of men, and hence were surprised when they saw women standing in front of them. Even if it were me in this situation, i would've thought of drawing men as well. This is because from childhood we've been raised by hearing such stereotypes and assumptions about people. Generally we would assume that only men can perform well in such jobs which requires more time, physical strength and skill. The society does not accept women in certain professions and women themselves rarely opt for something daring due to the stereotypes.

The second video is about girls and boys not being equally trained in household work.
Over the years parents have always been more strict about the women of the family knowing household work.
But that shouldn't be the case, and that is what the video tries to tell us. This generation has developed to some extent and thinks that equality in work and responsibilities is important. Yet, there still are people who go by stereotypes. But I feel it is necessary for girls and boys to share responsibilities and learn equally.Parents think that their sons feel to be degraded if they do the household chores, wheras the truth is that men learn to be independent in their life only if they learn the household chores. For example, taking the case of hostel,if the boys were thought of all the household chores, then they would never suffer in the hostel. So rather than thinking that doing household chores is a degrading job,if the people think that this is also a part of living, then such a stereotype will never exist.

Personal experience:It is not that I have personally experienced any stereotype as in the first video, but maybe a little as that of the second. In my home, basically, women have to do all the work and even if the men agree to do any work, the older ones don't allow them to do so,because according to them it's the women who have to do all the work and if the men do so they feel as if theh are degraded.I really didn't like this taking place in my home,so I started to convince my father rather than speaking to the older ones and told him that suppose u had to go to any another place officially leaving my mom, then what would you do? So it's better that u learn the household chores and help mom and that would be helpful for you as well as her.And now, my father helps my mom in the household chores and I also feel happy for it.

These videos showcase the overall mindset of our society on women in general

    Video:1

The first thing I came across in this video was the teacher was a woman. The teacher asks the students to draw a surgeon, fire fighter and a fighter pilot. She even asked the names of their drawings. Most of the students drew a male surgeon, male fire fighter and a male fighter pilot. After the children completed their drawing, when a surgeon,a fire fighter and a fighter pilot came, they were all shocked as they all were women. From the childhood we are brought up listening stories that dad works and earns money and mom take care of their children and do their household chores. The sad part is that no one ready to change this stereotype.Atleast the next generation should be taught that men and women are equal.

    Video:2

The video itself begins with mom doing her household chores and talking to her daughter over phone. The mom gets shocked when her daughter said that she had quit her job as she couldn't balance her household works and office work simultaneously. Mom tries to convince her daughter not to quit her job, but when the daughter pointed out about her own brother not doing any work in the house, mom understood that she herself has brought up her son in a wrong way. Though we say that we are giving equal rights to women, the true fact is that it is only partially rendered.

    Personal experience:

In my school, when I was in 12 th class, our school management planned to take us to Goa for a school tour. My friend's parents didn't allow her to Goa. The reason they told was that she was a girl, so she shouldn't go for a tour to Goa. The first video is a situation where children are asked to express their ideas on professions like surgeon, fire fighter and fighter pilot by drawing. Then the students were introduced to people actually working in these professions. When the children saw that all the three were women they were surprised as most of them drew men. This is a typical example of gender stereotype that has been existing for a very long time. The purpose of this video is to make the society to realise that they should not bring up the upcoming generations based on such stereotypes.

As we all know this video is about the gender stereotype in schooling..the classroom activity of drawing some social workers made the student to realize that there is a gender stereotype among themselves..so they were first asked to draw a firefighter....and our minds are fixed with a thing that only men could those jobs .. because they were strong and tough enough to hold this job..and women were considered as a soft characterized personality only cares for their family ...Even if they can overcome their family they can't overcome our society...in our society jobs were assigned for a particular gender that they only can do this and the other cannot think of doing those jobs....in the case of doctor...it happens the same .In olden days, people call men as KING ,who had enough strength to hold the land and QUEEN were only to assist the king.... Nowadays I feel that this gender stereotype has been reduced by MARVEL AND DC COMICS as they show women as a powerful superhero as well as men...and one thing I can't understand why villans are mostly men in those movies !..

Even if I were asked to draw those pictures,I would have definitely drawn those pictures in the form of men...coz I am the one whom in the mindset of those children.

    Video 2:
This video speaks about the men's non involvement in household works and women were cursed to do household works !! ..yeah ! Nowadays women came to do men's job but men wouldn't show any kind of interest in women's work...First of all assigning works for both the gender is a kind of discrimination....I feel that every boy should learn at least some basic household jobs because in case of mother's rule it's ok of being unknown but after marriage it will be mandatory to learn..and we cannot sustain in the house.!!..so every parents should try to teach their boys withsome basic knowledge and boys should be attentive too as a precaution !...I think the gender stereotype would be broken if this is done practical!!

Both the videos address the gender stereotypes that is prevailing in our society.

In the first video, when the. Children were asked to draw about different occupations like firefighter, surgeon, most of them imagine men as firefighters and surgeons. But when they see the women working as firefighters and surgeons, all of them are surprised. It is not the children to be blamed for this. All of us grow up believing that men are more capable of doing things than women. For example, when we talk about Indian Cricket we always refer to the Men's team and think of Sachin, Dhoni or Kohli, and don't even bother to think about the women's team. Inspite of many achievements, we never appreciated the women cricketers of our country as we grew up believing that women are physical weak and are limited to do only certain jobs like being teachers, dancers and singers.

In the second video, the most common gender stereotype in Indian Households is addressed. It talks about how we bring in gender to divide household labour. Usually men are always expected to work and earn money whereas women are expected to do the household chores. This is practiced in almost every house. But there is no biological determinant that it is only women who should do all the household work and not men. 'You must quit the job after marriage' is a very common sentence heard by many Indian girls at the time of marriage. This comes from the social belief that it is only mothers who are responsible for childcare. Why such illogical belief?on what basis do people decide such thing?NO ONE KNOWS.

It is believed that women have higher standards of cleanliness, whereas men are dirty pigs and always keep things untidy and that's why women are asked to do the household work. This was also shown in the video.

    Personal Experience

For me, I have come across these gender stereotypes during my schooling. After my sister's 10 th board exams , she had to chose either maths or Biology. Since she wanted to become a doctor, she was ready to take biology as her main subject. But many of my relatives advised my parents not to encourage that. This was because they felt that doing medicine and becoming a doctor will take a lot of time almost 6 - 7 years, and would be problem for my sister as she had to be married by 24 as she was a girl. But my parents understood her interests and encouraged her to do what she wanted. And, now my sister is doing MBBS as she wanted.

The videos given above talk about gender stereotypes which is a common thing existing in our society.

The first video depicts how gender stereotypes exists even at a very small age.In the video, elementary school children are asked to draw their thoughts on three professions, Firefighter,Surgeon and a Pilot. In the end only 5 pictures were drawn as women and
61 pictures were drawn as men.We cannot blame these children for their sterotypical mind. They might have got influenced from the daily cartoons or movies they watch in which men are portrayed as the powerful character. Also the parents are responsible for not showing effort to eliminate these thoughts from the child's mind. When the children met these people in real life,no wonder they got surprised seeing women doing all these jobs. The school made a good effort to eliminate this thought at an early stage which has to be followed by all the schools.

In the second video we can see a teenager who is portrayed as someone who is incapable of doing any household chores. The mother then realises her fault that she did not take equal effort in teaching her son to do these works as she did for her daughter. In our country people have a stereotypical thought that men are supposed to earn for the family and women must take care of the household jobs. This is wrong and both the men and women must take 50 % responsibility in taking care of the house and family. Most men even ask their wives to quit their jobs for this purpose. This is a common issue in our Indian society.Parents must teach their sons to be more responsible while they are left alone and they must be left to do a few household works.Like the mother in the video,it is still not too late for every parent to educate their sons based on this.

    My personal experience:
During my 12th standard the boys in my class were motivated by my physics teacher in a weird manner. She used to tell us that girls can survive without studying well but the boys have a family to take care of and they must earn for their children.According to her, boys will get married only if they earn well and for earning well they must study well.I see this as a perfect example of gender stereotype

The first video talks about how gender stereotypes affect young minds so deeply that it is reflected upon daily activities which we don't analyse and notice. We as a society are responsible for this and should rectify our mistakes inorder to remove gender based assumptions and prejudices. Parents should avoid making gender based assumptions and sexist remarks infront of their children. Education curriculum should be framed in a manner such that it doesn't give any scope for stereotypes or assumptions about any gender.

The second video portrays that boys aren't taught to take responsibility in household chores by the family and usually girls are expected to shoulder the whole burden. Neither will I refute it nor will I be for it, but I feel it depends on the upbringing and circumstances of the family which is crucial in boys learning household chores. There are guys who live on their own and know household chores better than most of the girls and hence making such generic assumptions wouldn't do justice.

Speaking about my personal experience, in my 11th grade we had to perform a physics experiment in groups of two each. The experiment had to be conducted simultaneously in the air conditioned lab and under the sun in the ground. Meghna(my friend) and me were a group, but the teacher asked me to do the full experiment in the sun and asked her to do it in the lab but partners were supposed to switch places halfway through the experiment. When we questioned her she said that Meghna would tan if she was exposed to the scorching sun but it wasn't the case for the guys as it is ok for them to be dark skinned. I was shell-shocked hearing this but couldn't speak out as she was a senior teacher and I didn't want to create a bad impression.

Gender stereotype is an important topic which must be discussed and awareness must be created among the minds of people.

VIDEO 1:I was surprised to see how gender inequality is even prevailed in the young minds. When school children were asked to depict a picture on various professions ..eg: pilot, surgeon ,fire fighter..80% of the class represented men in the form of professionalists. It is because most of the people ..we come across in the society are men who are always assigned to a superior position rather than women. When real women workers were introduced to the class..the whole class was surprised..

VIDEO 2:A common scenerio which still takes place in many of our houses is depicted in this video. It shows a young boy's lack of interest in house hold chores.. His mom was cleaning his room in which all the things were scattered. Then she receives a phone call in which a working woman is informing about discontinuation of her..just because she has to manage her family..The mother of that boy now realizes the mistake everyone does and corrects his son at the end..

Nowadays women show interest in almost all the fields but not all men are showing interest in house hold chores..
This situation is now changing..but not to the greater extend.

PERSONAL EXPERIENCE: When it was time for my brother to choose his career..he was given an open choice that..he can study what ever he is interested in..and when it was my turn before asking me in what I am actually interested in..they have already decided and presented me only two or three options..not more than that..when I was about to voice out my interest and opinion..the only reason they gave me is ..it will atleast take 7- 8 years for you to finish ur course and it is pointless educating a girl who is going to be married in 5- 6 years..which I totally consider as blunder..From which I made a decision of supporting my younger sister to achieve her dream ..no matter what the hurdle is..

The first video shows that many young people are living in highly gendered environments, and place emphasis on traditional male or female stereotypes in their everyday lives. When the children were asked to represt their idea of a fighter pilot , a surgeon and a fire fighter only few drew them as women!!....they relate bravery and strength to male..but the world is changed....It’s clear that gender roles and stereotypes are engrained in children’s lives from a young age..These are a result of movies , shows , comics , games where a male character is portrayed to be strong n heroic. The mentality of the young generation should be erased. It's our responsibility to make them the best.

This video speaks about gender bias in household chores. As said household chores are not meant for women alone. First of all assigning works for both the gender is a kind of discrimination....I feel that every boy should learn at least some basic household jobs . Living in a modern world,it becomes totally immature to expect women alone to take care of the family.

Her parents tried to convince her to join engineering by saying it's hard for a girl to cover a huge portion to clear NEET....but she rejected the idea of joining engineering and spent a whole year for preparation and cleared NEET....now she is studying in KMC and we are really proud of the first doctor in our family

Both the videos reflect the gender stereotypes which spread around the world.

    Video 1:
This explains how the society is framed . It's not the children's fault .This is society's fault. From the ancient time the ancestors make the people believe that only men can do all kind of jobs .This was not true . Nowadays women are achieving in numerous fields .
For example: women like Indira Gandhi ,Hilary Clinton ,Marie Curie,Vijayalakshmi Pandit etc achieved in various fields .
Those ancient superstitious bizarre are abolished and women's thoughts are coming to light.

    Video 2:

Works are not classified based on gender. From that video we can understand that how people thoughts are changing nowadays. No works are considered as detestable . Men need some mutual understanding with his family to separate household works. And now in most of the home men started working .
Thus our society started moving towards good way .

Video 1: It is a complete gender stereotype where the children have made to stick onto the idea where some proffessions are meant for men!! It doesn't mean that women are unfit for all odd jobs like firefighter ,surgeon, etc...Its our fault where we have imparted negative thoughts into the minds of children and the society has its own result where they have showcased unacceptable stereotype.

Video 2: Women are mentally strong and men are physically strong.Household works are not only for women.Eventhough ,man is the head of the family ,it doesnt mean he has to work outside to run the family .He has to support his wife in the household chores to reduce the burden.Nowadays, women have also started working to share the husband's burden in earning money. So, men should also help women in all works.

    Personal gender bias experience:

I joined boxing in NSO camp .We were only four girls who joined boxing. All others were boys. One day, attendance was not taken for us.We reported to one of the seniors. He gave a blank smile which irritated us a lot.He repeated the same question" Whether all four of you truly belong to boxing?" .He didnt completely believe .How is that possible when the Nso seniors cant accept boxing for girls...When can we bring a change??Boxing is purely a game and is not only for boys.Girls too have an equal chance.

Video 1: Its indeed appalling to observe the fact that such small kids with tiny immature brains have become victims of a contagious serious disease known as Gender stereotype or rather Gender imbalance...This is primarily attributed to the fact that the children are raised in a dullard fashion.Parents too cannot be blamed completely as the society demands this out of them. When the children are asked to sketch people doing different jobs, not even 10% of the students are able to imagine women doing them..This is because their minds are not able to comprehend it..But finally , the fact that schools are taking relentless efforts to bring back the beautiful balance in the society makes me feel euphoric.

Video 2: This is a piece of clip which I feel is trying to disseminate and generalise gender bias in performing household chores, which I feel is not a great idea as what it proclaims is not always the case.Infact, I personally know a lot of men who can perform household chores more effectively and efficiently than most women out there..Of course its true that women are expected to have an expertise over such things unlike men,but we shouldn’t speculate this..I would like to give an incorruptible example here..yes..its me..Right from the age of 10..I’m used to washing my plate after eating my food.I can never wake out of bed without folding my blanket because as a kid it was instilled into my mind that if you don’t fold your blanket and get out of bed, your leaving your soul back there..Indeed a superstition but worked well for me..

PERSONAL EXPERIENCE: I had a pretty intense cum intriguing episode of gender bias in my own family a couple of years back..So after my cousin completed her undergrad, she got immediately placed in NESTLE...But her parents thwarted her the opportunity to go only because of the fact that she was a girl and had to work in Belgium all alone(Of course out of concern). This led to lot of problems within the family and at one point, her intense frustration made her leave home.Finally..she stood strong by her stand and wasn’t ready for any compromise.So..her parents had no other choice than to allow her leave to Brussels.I’m extremely proud to tell all of you that she is currently the Executive Nutrition Manager(ENM) at Nestle Global,Brussels..I couldn’t ask for a better example to prove that women are indeed breaking all the boundaries apart.But..this incident has made more cautious..Its indeed a red signal for all the men out there including me to not to take any women for granted.YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT COMES NEXT OUT OF THAT CREATURE..!!!

So the first video shows us how far back gender stereotypes affect the way we perceive things and also how it creates a strong mindset of "gender" that becomes very hard to change in the future. The problem is mainly with society which enforces this idea of stereotyping on the younger generation ,who in turn pass this on to the next generation. Bad parenting could also lead to the growth of gender stereotypes in young minds.

The second video shows society is modeled , women are meant for household chores while men are to go out into the world. This has been followed since ancient days and is still yet to change. Men learning household chores is a good thing ,but only can happen if the parents change.

I don't have any personal experiences but I would like to share my friend's experience. So he had a sister who had just finished college and got a job in another state. Even though it was a great job, the parents were reluctant to the girl go out into the world alone, saying it wasn't safe and women shouldn't be alone on their own.
This kind of attitude has to stop if people want gender equality.

Video 1 : This video says that we lag in our perception. The great roles are always played by men till date in our society.Women compete them in a hidden way.How many of today's women know about themselves?None. They think that they are only fit for household chores and baby care.Women are playing vital roles in 2019 making revolutions with a strong path for their future girl powers. For example,The late Mrs.Sushma Swaraj is boasted for the first women for being the cabinet minister, opposition party leader, etc. So , does being first makes women proud? No. Every girl should be Sushma Swaraj,Kalpana Chawla ,Rani Mangammal, etc.Thats where the real equality lies.

    Video 2 :

Every day faces this situation.Evaery home faces this situation. From ancient days , specifying became more common.Men are meant for strong and fierce works;women are meant for loving and low power works.Thats where the problem started. Every men should know to be women.Every women should know to be man.Men should start to cook, wash, take care of children.Women should know to fight, sweat and achieve. Each men and women should learn to swap their roles and be available for others game too. Everything begins at home;so start teaching everyone alike.

Personal experience : I never gave a space for gender stereotypes.I always track my opportunities to sculpt every stone of my life path.I am a nss volunteer. One day,we were volunteering to donate clothes and books on Besant Nagar. Those things were not that much heavy. But my seniors instructed boys to carry them and said girls can't do it.I opposed and carried them. Some girls joined me and I felt that we lag to oppose specific things.Start opposing the wrongful thoughts on us to lead our life ahead.

IN FIRST VIDEO:Schools are the places that will choose the person what to become both on character and in career. If we made a strong impact on students the thought of both men and women are equal they never think of specific choices. When the children were asked they chose fire fighters,Surgeon,Air pilot but all the characters were played by men.Yet they were shocked when they realised all the characters were also played by Women also.yes If men can do it why not women can't.Due to gender inequality women weren't allowed to choose their career byby the wills. If they were given a chance they always surprise you like MARY KOM!
IN SECOND VIDEO:In this modern world women were working equally as men. Some are still following the olden tales like women should do the household chores.Men don't.Even if a man wanted to help woman in household chores as a brother or as husband they were criticised by relatives who are still following the olden tales. They should become aware of the change of modern world. If they won't ,we e should become aware of their old tales. But now it's changing.

In the first video the children are asked by their teachers to depict their views on certain professions. Most of the children draw men in the role of a surgeon, a firefighter and a fighter pilot.
Later on the teachers introduce a few people in those professions and the children are shocked to see women in such roles. If I was asked by my teachers to do the same I would also draw men in those roles. This shows that we have all been brought up in a stereotypical way in which we think that certain professions are for men and certain professions are for women,The school has taken a positive step in eliminating such thoughts among the children.

In the second video the mother is negligent towards her son and tidies up his room.It is only when her daughter calls her up and tells her that she will be quitting her job as her husband doesn't help her with household chores as he doesn't know how to do them , the mother realizes her mistake and begins to teach her son household chores. This is something very common in a lot of families where the boys do not contribute in household chores as they simply don't know how to do them. The video says that both boys and girls should be taught household chores.

I have personally been in many stereotypical situations the most recent one where my friends told that his girlfriend has got a driving license but I haven't got one yet, implying that despite being a girl who are notoriously known for their bad driving skills she has got a license but I being a boy haven't got one.I feel that it is wrong to expect that if one is a boy he should have good road sense .

‌In the first video,we can see some people asking children of age around 6,7 to participate in a drawing based classroom activity. As they are asked to draw pictures potraying professions, the first thing that comes to their mind is that,if they should draw a man or a woman. So,as they hear 'fighter pilot',,'surgeon' and 'fire fighter' they know they have to draw a man. This shows the gender stereotype among these children eventhough they aren't aware of what stereotyping is.They might have only seen these professions potrayed by men in Television, cartoons, story books, etc. and that's why they look stunned on seeing the 3 women at the end wearing those clothes.Hence, children should be taught of this at such an early stage to understand that women are always equal to men.

‌The second video shows how boys, especially teenagers, lack household responsibilities and thus the burden on women increases.Mothers usually prefer their sons to work hard but not in the household since they give that responsibility to the daughters. But they should understand that the sons can't always depend on women to do these kind of activities. The sister on the phone has trouble maintaining office workload and in home as well. So,the husband should take responsibility and help his wife.He shouldn't feel that his job is only to make a living for the family which is another example for gender stereotyping.

‌Personally,I've heard about many of my relatives not allowing their daughters to get a job after the completion of their degree as they immediately start searching alliance irrespective of their daughters' willingness. This should be stopped and girls need to pursue their education till they want to.

The video shows the mindset of the children that only men are qualified to do tough jobs. This type of mindset being created by the movies they watch and what parents teach them. In some houses , man goes to work while woman remain in the house and take care of the family. Children grow up seeing this. Children see what their parents show them. Therefore in order to bring about a change , it must start from each and every family.

    Video 2:
In this video , it can be seen that women do household work and men don't. Yes , that's still happening in our society. A women's dream is shattered after marriage as she is confined to the house. Everyone have their dreams. They are being forced to do household work by her own family members just because they assume that woman can only do household work and take care of the family while the man does a job and earns money.

Video 1: The reflection of children's thought is expressed here. This is how kids are manipulated to stereotypes. They tend to perceive these notions from the beginning and it grows forever. And they tend to follow that when they meet the world. So, the solution would be the change in brought up of children. Human beings must be treated equally and they should have the freedom to do what they wish. Personally I have faced such situations during family talks. I heard from my relatives on how a girl's behaviour should be , a typical place. This rages me at times , and the impact was I started argumenting whenever such conversation took place and started asking why.

    Video:2
We infer that , people forget that gender bias exist. The mother have no intention to prejudice between her son and daughter. But that came into existence without her knowledge. So this where a change has to be brought. One has to think from other person's perspective. This is the common gender bias found in families. Giving space to women's choice and freedom for her thoughts is still a far cry. Let's hope to eradicate this in future.

A stereotype, by definition, is a generalized notion or belief about a group of people. How have stereotypes come about?

For a stereotype to have developed, there must have been an element of truth to it, at the initial stages of development at least. To put things in perspective, for the belief that all Asians are "proficient in math" to have come about, there must have been some Asians to have actually been good at math for people to generalize.

Therefore, a stereotype can branch out from the truth and develop gradually. Another way is if some large-scale event takes place. Here's an example. Islamophobia is believed to have reached its peak in late 2001. Now, just because a few Islamic extremists carried out a terrorist attack (the consequences of which were widely publicized on a global scale), people started stereotyping that all Muslims are terrorists.

Now, I have established to the best of my knowledge and analysis that the grounds for stereotypes to come about are truth, time and man. Similarly, it will take these three factors to remove stereotypes.

The notions that Gujuratis are stingy and South Indians are conservative cannot be removed from the people's minds overnight. Times change. Humans adapt.

On a more personal level, as an innocent child starting his teenage years, something happened that changed the way I perceived things, albeit not immediately. I was walking home from my neighbor's place when I happened upon a transgender woman who asked me for money. I couldn't bring myself to say anything so I mumbled something and tried walking away. The person then chased me and I made a run for it. I didn't mention the incident to anyone right away. I was a transphobic person for a couple of years thinking all transgender people to be the same until I read online about gender not being binary.

The first video is about gender stereotypes. We normally don't come across a female firefighter or a pilot in real life. Hence the mindset is like that. It's a good effort on the teacher's part to bring real life people into the class to break such stereotypes.

The second video is about the changing view of our society. During our grandparents days, men literally would do nothing at home. Women did all the household chores. During our parents time, it slowly started changing since women started working

The current scenario is totally different. Men contribute equally at home. This has been the case all over the world, especially the developed countries for quite sometime but we are slowly adapting to it

    Personal experience:
In my house, my mom does all the chores though she works from home for my dad's office. But she is aware of the changing society and so has started training me in all the little little work - like folding clothes, changing bedspreads, peeling eggs, filling water bottles etc.

In the first video, children, inadvertently, associate the jobs with the masculine gender, which is proof enough for the prevalence of gender stereotyping in our society. This can either be attributed to the patriarchal mindset of our society that once glorified men and belittled women, or, to the fact that we still believe certain jobs can be accomplished only by men. Nevertheless, the scenario is totally different now. Women, strongly driven by their steely resolve, have overcome all the social evils and are proving their mettle in fields which once were thought to be beyond their reach. So, it is high time we took efforts to change things right at the primary level, much alike the activity that was planned for the children in this video.

The second video emphasizes on the responsibility of parents to instill the thought that household work is gender-neutral. In the case of men who are hesitant to share the household chores, it comes down to the kind of environment they grew up in, where, either the elders would have been completely ignorant of this or there would have been people with a flawed opinion that household chores are meant only for women. People who still believe so should realize that at the end of the day, it’s all about reducing the burden on your beloved women and that lack of skills in going about the household chores can never be an excuse for not doing it.

Personal experience: I personally have not faced anything in particular, but I would like to share something that my cousin had been through. The whole thing started when she was around 20 years old. She was constantly pressurized by her parents to learn cooking, as, in a couple of years, she would have to get married and run a household all by herself. She was really not interested and didn’t bother. She is now 25 and is still a mediocre cook, but she is lucky as her fiancé is a great cook! So, it’s evident that men are good cooks too and by this I don’t intend to say that girls should never learn it. It’s just that it is unfair to force them to do something when they are not interested and if that’s the case, they might very well have their own ways of sorting things out.

This blog discusses the gender stereotypes ,which can be seen normally in our society.
In the 1st video, three women claiming themselves to be teachers are seen asking young children to portray( by drawing) their idea about three professions which were SURGEON, FIREFIGHTER and a PILOT. Children drew 66 drawings , out of which 5 drawings only depicted women. I was amazed that their drawings were really great, but I can say that I didn’t feel the same way on seeing only few drawings depicted women. Because I would’ve done same kind of drawing, if I were asked to… Some part of this situation appears like GENDER STEREOTYPE , which has to be changed in the children minds if it really is. It was really good move that they later revealed their professions, destroying the stereotype feeling and the children were really excited and they must’ve come to know that professions are irrespective of gender. At the same time, those drawings were their general idea about the professions rather than GENDER STEREOTYPE. We all must try to remove this gender stereotype right from the young minds…
On speaking about the 2nd video, it’s a normal gender stereotype that every people having sibling of opposite gender must have come across with. As we all know, mostly women involve in household chores. When we men do these household chores, people don’t see it as our “equal participation”, but as we helping women. This idea must be changed. Also, it’s not like that men don’t know how to do these household chores or they can’t do..Nowadays , some men (bachelors, hostellers) are also doing these stuff on their own since situation demands. If men involve themselves in these chores to some extent, it will be really helpful for the women. Every adult must develop these skills irrespective of their mother’s teaching.

Both the videos present above send strong messages on the prevalence of gender stereotypes. The personal experience I had did not impact me since the bias wasn't against my gender. Speaking of stereotypes, I've heard people say that driving instructors tend have a sexist view by default. I did believe in that. And just a few months ago, from an encounter with my instructor, I learnt that the stereotype held to be true. I had started taking driving classes and whenever I committed any petty mistake while driving, I received an iterative retort from my instructor saying that, "Only women make such errors". This was just the tip of the iceberg. Almost each and every comment he made implied something demeaning about women.

Apart from this example, various other instances of bias against men and women are present in abundance in the world we live in. Just as shown in the videos, the root problem is that stereotypes are being ingrained into minds at a young age. As a consequence, it has become ubiquitous throughout our lives. Alleviating these stereotypes is no walk in the park. Though initiatives are being taken to break such stereotypes, it will take a few more generations to complete cross this hurdle.

This blog focuses on Gender stereotypes that are entrenched thoughts present in our daily life.

The first video shows when children being asked by three women posing as teachers to draw a firefighter, a surgeon, and a fighter pilot. The children enthusiastically start drawing, and go on to create 66 pictures in total -- but only five of them depict women. They are then asked if they would like to meet real-life versions of these drawings and the teachers return to the classroom in their uniforms, revealing themselves to be the surgeon, firefighter and Royal Air Force pilot.
From this video it is clear that gender roles and stereotypes are ingrained in children’s lives from a young age and it is a fact that it brings in a perpetuating behaviour among them as they grow. These findings show that many young people are living in highly gendered environments, and place emphasis on traditional male or female stereotypes in their everyday lives. This is shown to have a clear impact on young people’s well-being as a whole.

The second video questions the stereotype of household chores being a feminine responsiblity alone and urges men to participate equally. Household inequality is a very relevant and an often overlooked truth across the country. 70% of men across the country believe household chores are a woman’s job. The root cause for this is the passing down of this prejudice from one generation to the next. Children learn what they see. Research shows that 71% of children today ask their mothers to do the laundry. Why? Because they've never seen their dads do laundry. As a result, they grow up imitating what they’ve seen and learnt at home.
It leaves us with a thought to mull over “If sharing the load is taught at an impressionable age, it becomes a part of their value system.”

One set down. The team was heading towards losing . And this meant their team would be out of the school’s volleyball competition. Even before the league began everyone was sure that this team had no chances of winning even a single game. Except the captain of the team. He did his best to keep the team’s spirit high. High-fives for every point scored. Pats on the back after every serve. Quick huddles between points.
The team lost by a huge margin. There was celebration on one side of the court, and silence on the other. Everyone shook hands and were getting off the field to head back home. The captain of the losing team though, a 16-year-old boy, was devastated.. With his head down, he started walking slowly. He barely walked a few steps.
All the boys were watching him . His team lost and he was already feeling ‘less of a man’. He didn’t want to go down another level by crying, but without his approval tears welled up in his dejected eyes. And before he knew, he was crying his heart out.
The boys walked past him, and everything he feared came true. Some of the guys laughed at him, some told him to ‘man up’, and some simply said, “Don’t cry like a girl!”. The boys were not at fault as they were growing up into the ‘men’ that society expected them to be.

P.S : THIS HAPPENED TO ONE OF MY CLOSE FRIEND. I don’t exactly remember, experiencing a stereotype in my life in particular to be remembered.

Boys (and men) experience pain too and they should be made comfortable to express their feelings. When we as adults fail to do our part in having meaningful conversations with boys and instead simply tell them to ‘be a man’, boys learn to put on a mask to hide their emotions and insecurities from a very young age and start equating emotion with weakness in the pursuit of becoming strong men. It is going to be a long battle to redefine masculinity and undo the damage done, but like every change, this one too begins with each one of us taking responsibility.
Let’s redefine masculinity that is worth striving for.

video 1: In this video students are independently allowed to draw the picture of the professionals in the particular domain said by the teacher . According to me there is nothing wrong in the outcome were there is only 3 drawn women professionals since even as a college students when are given the same task the outcome would be same . Most of us think that there are certain jobs which can be only done by men, but there are also some jobs were one and only women can do . Finally when the Teacher call each professional most of the students were stunned to see women dressed up . Now a days i will agree
that women play a role in this professions but only in a few amount since they face lots and lot of trouble to enter into the particular domain .For example it's difficult for a women pilot to get trained in hard situations . But we hope that this situation will change soon as possible.

video 2: Mostly in rural India there are certain superstitious beliefs like women can't go out and they are fit to do only household work ,but this things doesn't make sense to me .Life of a women who goes to a job is still a miserable one she have to mange both her house and job , an imbalance either in her job or house makes her pathetic .

Real life Example: A friend of mine had interest in Athletics .She was my neighbor and we both studied in the same class . Her father was stubborn that she shouldn't practice athletics and there will lots of fights between them every evening. He won't allow her to participate in athletic meet. But one day she went to district meet without informing her parents and she won first prize in 1500m a long event which is difficult for women .Our school management convinced her father to allow her to participate in the upcoming events.

Both the videos addresses about the Gender Stereotypes which are happening in the society

    video 1:
In this video a teacher asked her students to draw the pictures of firefighter, surgeon and a fighter pilot out of which 61 person were drawn as men and only 5 as women. The society thinks that tough jobs/works can be done only by men and women are not capable of doing those works. The society enforces this idea on the children and this will spread as a disease to our future generations too.

    video 2:
The video depicts the stereotype which commonly happens in our house. Usually men were expected to work and earn money whereas women are expected to do the household works and take care of children. In many families, girl's responsibilities are limited to things like setting the table and washing dishes, while boys are expected to take care of more physical tasks, like mowing the lawn or taking out the trash etc and Not only does that they also send the wrong message to both boys and girls about what they are capable of and what appropriate roles for them look like, but it also makes them up to be less likely or feel shamed to do certain types of tasks later in life.

Video 1 - In this video the children had drawn mostly the picture of a man, its obviously because still there are mostly men are working at those jobs. Women had been fixed to the mindset that they should not be involved in those jobs but it is now changing, women are stepping into every field and sooner there will be day that women are equal in number to that of men involved in jobs like these.

Video 2 – Its not that boys are not doing household works. When there comes a need they too do so. Its true that in my neighborhood there is a family in which woman is going for a job and man Is taking care of household work.

Personal Experience: I don’t think that my sister have any trouble in making her dreams come true because of being a girl. Me and my sister have equal rights to do things. My family isn’t such stereotypic and hope everyone’s.

The first clip revolves around the concept of gender-based determination of certain occupations. When asked to draw pictures of fire fighter, surgeon and fighter pilot, most of the kids associated these occupations to men. Their minds are naturally inclined to map tasks that require physical and mental strength to be associated with men. The utter disbelief the kids have in recognizing them is a serious issue to be pondered about. There’s no point in blaming as most of us are succumbed to these social views right from an early age. Cartoons, books, media have a major influence in implanting such opinions.

The second video portrays the lack of household skills in men. It is true that women are constrained with marital responsibilities and male chauvinism is still prevalent in few parts of the country. At the same time, it is not to be denied that there is an equal share of workload between men and women these days. A lot of men are indeed more responsible and it is merely an assumption or a preconceived notion that we have about men being not able to handle household chores.

Gender “equity” is what we must be looking for.

PERSONAL EXPERIENCE: A couple of my friends participated in an inter-school science exhibition and got a special mention in the all-girls category. Though they were equally competitive and it was a nice move from the school to encourage more such female participation, a few of them questioned their capabilities. It was a bit disappointing as their ideas were not appreciated. Sexism in our blood is so dissolved that we forget to notice such accomplishments.

We have come a long way and are in a better position. Just because she is a woman, things don’t come easily. Also just because he is a man, doesn’t mean he can roam freely, he might have his own #MeToo stories. Lets pause ad introspect before judging someone and be more rational in our thoughts and opinions.

  66. Video 1:
It is a stereotype as the children had a deep impression that the hard works are only done by men .It's kind of unacceptable in this modern society where people says that all genders are equal but still what's going on in the society reminds us it isn't changed yet and it has to be changed as soon as possible for a global level development which is based on human power not only on man power.
    Video 2:
Women are the one who are supposed to do the households!!! it isn't something that everyone can accept or will accept ,But still it is.As this shows that the trace of the old practice(where women takes care of the household and men takes care of the family and can give protection to it) which are said to have abolished from the society which says "Men and Women have equal rights.Everyone can do things which please them and there's no gender boundary".The same old practice is still followed by people we know as friends , family , relations....(knowingly or unknowingly). To make gender equality effectively in progress it has to be start from us ,we as a part of the society has to take the necessary steps for a better tomorrow:)

Video1:-The first video basically shows how stereotypical the young minds are. They were asked by their teacher to draw a picture of people in a particular occupation told. Most of the kids drew pictures of men in those occupations. This is sad.But they aren't the ones to be blamed .Its our our society that has made a clear gender inequality. That our young minds learn. This particular video was a great way to teach children that there are no gender restrictions for an occupation .If he/she is really interested and has the passion to follow the particular path he/she can always succeed in that field.

Video 2:-The second video shows how the society treats a married women. This video shows a mom calling her daughter who was at her in laws to check up on her and to ask her how her job was going in which she was successful .The mom then learns that she was forced by her in laws to quit her job and to do household chores. This is completely wrong.Women should have the freedom to work and pursue their dreams no matter what.Since childhood our mothers do all our work like waking us up,making us food, cleaning our clothes like it is some sort of mandatory job assigned to them. The children have to be taught from childhood about the gender equality that they have to follow as they grow up.

Personal experience:-I have personally not faced anything in particular. But I would like to share something that my grandmother has been through. My grandmother was forcefully married at the age of 17 because of which she could not complete her education, but she was really interested in completing her education. At the age of 17 her life was filled with her doing the household chores ,taking care of a big family and raising her kids. She never got to complete her education.

There may be two videos here, but the core meaning of these two being almost same , expressing the inevitable fact.It is not partitioned that a specific work finds its place on particular gender, but in the hands of dedicated ones irrespective of gender. In first video, the children were brought up in such a way that they think that men would do heavy works and not women. In second video the same son was brought up in such a way that he thinks women are for household works and not men.
It has been taught to us that we should readily accept men achievers and to be surprised of women achievers. The solution for this problem lies in the aspect we think. Pondering upon this gender inequality,we come to know that this inequality doesn't comes by means of birth but by the thoughts and thinking of human mind. Every individual must strive to do their best irrespective of gender.

My sister used to play kabbadi. Of course it's her passion. But she cannot even play in zonal level ,not because that she is not talented but she is a girl. Yes ,her parents denied.

Clip one shows the stereotype that risky and adventurous jobs are handled only by men. Fifty-one of all those children expressed their thought in their drawing as men professionals but just five is of women. This may be due to the normal life happening, movies, anime, cartoons, and even sports which they come across. This has made the children change their mind that men are dominant to women. At last, they saw women firefighter, surgeon, and Royal Air Force pilot and said that they were dressed up. This shows how deep the societies ethics has affected them. But finally, women got empowered because of these powerful women, who have achieved the height that the society thought that they can't reach.

Experience: My family friend's daughter always says that she wants to be a pilot. Her parents and relatives opposed her, but now she is in pilot school in New Zealand.

    //go_beyond

Clip 2 shows that generally women take up household responsibilities and men take up outdoor responsibilities. Now as a matter of time and women empowerment, women take up both responsibilities and men remains the same. This happens because of men dominance on women and hierarchical exchange. Boys must be trained to look after households, cook, and prioritize his works.

MT: "Don't stay happy after giving your responsibilities to others, stay satisfied by doing your own responsibility. This is a Universal balancing thought"

In the first video,Most of the children had drawn the picture of men.Only some of them had drawn the picture of women. It has been believed that these kind of jobs are only men and women can't do these jobs.Television programs are the central part of children's everyday lives. These kind of false fact are spreading among the children through the Cartoons,Comics,Movies like etc....This false belief is widely seen in South Asian countries more than others. It is true that woman is physically weaker than men.But they have strong mentality and will power and with these they can achieve everything.

In the second video, Men need to understand this is not the 1809s where women just stay home. It's different now!The old fashioned idea of women should do all the house chores shouldn't continue to exist anymore because the world is becoming more modernized and so shall our minds be.If a guy is out making money, it's up to the wife to keep the house clean. If the woman is out making the money, the man should clean up the house. And if both are making money, share the responsibility. Relationships are all about compromise.. Men should help women do housework since men is also part of the family.

Both these videos highlights the prevailing problem in our society, which is GENDER STEREOTYPING. Gender stereotyping presents a serious obstacle to the achievement of real gender equality and feeds into gender discrimination. Gender stereotypes are preconceived ideas whereby males and females are arbitrarily assigned characteristics and roles determined and limited by their sex.

In the first video, a group of children were asked to draw pictures of professions demanding courage, bravery and grit, like a firefighter, a soldier for and a surgeon. Most of the children pictured men doing these jobs which required the aforementioned traits. To everyone's surprise, when the teachers revealed their actual professions, the children were surprised. Their minds weren't able to accept the fact that women were also capable of doing jobs requiring valor, knowledge and toughness which is often associated to the traits possessed by men. Great effort by the school in trying to eradicate Gender Stereotyping.

In the second video, it shows that our society is structured. It shows how women are only meant for doing household chores and men had the freedom to go out into the real world and doing what they love. Parents areone of the major reasons for this problem as they teach their daughters to do the chores at their homes and not their sons. This acts as an obstacle for the development of women, as they are restricted to follow their dreams. Are women unfit? Are women not capable of achieving big things? I DON'T THINK SO. This has to Change and it has to change NOW.

Personally I've seen a lot of gender Stereotypes and I'd like to share one of them. So when I was in school, the boys who played football were always trained by the best coaches and the girls weren't trained by these coaches. A girl was brave enough to voice out this discrimination as she went and complained to our Principal who took an instant action to solve this issue.

In the first video, most of the children drew pictures of men when they thought of firefighters, air Force pilots and even about surgeons. Women are equally as strong as men to do these kind of jobs. I believe that women have the will power to handle the physical impacts that these hardcore jobs have on us. Women are way better than men when it comes to the fact of understanding the situation and reacting to it. I wish many other women should join these kind of jobs and men should encourage them.
In the second video, we saw a women quiting her job to do her household work. This is a very sad situation that is happening in our society nowadays. In those olden days, women wanted to have education but they were not allowed to do so. Women's potential were hidden by the society in those days. The same thing should not happen in our generation . Men must be very much supportive to women in each and every aspect of life. Men must encourage all women to go to jobs they desire.Men must equally contribute in doing household activities to reduce the burden of women. Men must respect women's hardwork and encourage it.
Personally, I have come across this similar kind of situation. In those olden days, my grandmother was a topper in the class and she was excellent in her studies. In the first video, we witnessed nearly 61 children drawing pictures of men when asked to think about firefighters, surgeons and air Force pilots.
Nowadays, women are equally strong as men to do these jobs. Women are far more better than men in handling stress. Women have an extremely high will power to do these physically tough jobs. Today, women are achieving great heights in many fields. Women must be supported and encouraged by all men.
In the second video, we saw a women planning to leave her job for concentrating on her household works. Men must understand that this is not the late 90's where women should be restricted at home. Men must pay respect to the hardwork of women. Men must co operate with women and take part in household activities to reduce the stress of women.
Personally, in my real life my cousin sister has experienced a similar kind of situation. My sister was so desperate in riding a bicycle. But, she was restricted by her parents for her safety. But my cousin sister was a very bold girl. She argued with her parents and finally she was allowed to ride a bicycle. Today, she can drive a car on her own. Iam really happy for her.

  75. In the first video the children are asked by their teachers to depict their views on certain professions.Stereotypes are images and ideas, fixed and oversimplified, of particular people or things. Black women tend to encounter the utmost sexual and racial stereotypes. The remarks that I commonly hear are black women emasculate their men and are also sexually inhibited. Media and society have installed these stereotypes in a majority of our minds.Sexuality plays a huge role in gender stereotyping. Media portrays women as an object to earn. This completely destroys the idea of individual identity and the ability of having confidence in one’s body as it really is. It also shames women who feel happy in their own skin and are sexually active. The chances are they will be labelled sluts. Most men have become afraid of accidentally conveying an unmanly persona: they are constantly trying to prove themselves to other men, and this leads them to objectify a lot of what is in their lives.

The first video depicts the common stereotypes that are associated with certain strength demanding job. The video demonstrates a class activity in which students are asked to draw a fire fighter,a surgeon and a fighter pilot.Unsurprisingly most of the students potray the above characters as men. However when they meet people working in these profession they are surprised to see women. I am sure that if this same activity is conducted to teenagers or even grown ups the end result would be more or less similar.
Yes the above jobs require a lot of mental and physical strength and its a common practice to associate men with strength and female as faint-hearted and feeble .But with the resources available today, the female strength in these professions have exponentially grown up. A lot of women have proven that they are in now way less than their male colleagues, and have shattered these stereotypes. Media plays a huge part in influencing people's thoughts .Conducting shows about females from these fields, publishing their struggles ,would help in breaking these stereotypes prevailing in the society .

Video 2 elaborates the most common gender stereotypes.A teenager is potrayed as a lazy guy who procrastinates, and avoids doing household chores .His mother however pampers him and cleans his room .When she hears the news of her daughter quitting her job as she couldn't manage her household chores, she immediately questions why her son in law wouldn't help and when she glances at his son she gets the answer. She now realises that its also her fault and demands her son to do his chores.
Its high time we accept the fact that we are living in a patriarchal society and start finding method to create an egalitarian society.I personally feel having reservations for women(for eg in iits/nitts,etc) further creates a divide in gender equality.Every single person should be given equal opportunities irrespective of their gender.
My personal exp:A few years ago my cousin sister got married, before marriage she was working in a huge firm in the United states whereas her husband was working in a comparatively a smaller job in India. Her parents were very particular about the alliance because of the "good reputation" of the boys family. After marriage she had to leave her high paying job and had to come back to india .To be frank i have never witnessed a scenario where after marriage the husband moves to his wife's place, not even in movies!.
